Re: What is the difference between data mining and big data?

For me, data mining and data science are very similar words. In general, data mining is an older term, and data science is the newer, more trendy word. I observe that data science is often used by people who have a statistic background, while data mining tend to be more used by people with a compute...

Re: What to do when your research is stuck?

A good strategy is to make a plan, which consists of breaking down a larger goal into small goals and every day to fix some realistic set of small goals that you want to achieve. If you are "stuck" on a task, it might be due to several reasons. If it is a lack of creativity or ideas, then ...

Re: how long did you take to get a PhD?

Hi Mark, In my case, my PhD took about 4 years and it was the average for that PhD program. There are some PhD programs that can be shorter (e.g. 3 years) and some that are longer. But basically, most of the time the length depends on your research work and the time that you put. I ever meet a man i...

Re: how to get a professor or lectures position?

HI GMC, Personally, when I was a post-doctoral researcher in 2010, I applied for many jobs I must have sent CV to at least 50 universities in a few countries and passed about 4 interviews for various positions before finding a good match. The best is to start applying at least 6 months in advance if...

Re: CFP: BDA 2022 (10th International Conference on Big Data Analytics

This is a good data mining conference, organized every year in India. But it is also an international conference with several high level guests and speakers. I have attended it a few years ago, and it was a good conference. It is also published by Springer. I recommend this conference.

Re: Purchase of Twitter by Elon Musk

I think Twitter is an important platform around the world for communication. But I do not think that it has changed much over the last decade in terms of functions. Maybe Musk can makes things change and improve the management and business aspects of the company. But I think we will have to wait and...

Re: Book about SPMF

Currently, I have not started to write a book. But I appreciate the idea. I might do a book on SPMF in the future... maybe a kind of user manual. But it requires some time, so we will see.
